Springing into Summer

As I type we’ve enjoyed a glorious summer; it was last weekend on the 13/14/15th May.

Seriously, as happens every year, we have been informed we’re going to have a scorcher!    At The BriT we are ready, whatever the weather, to get involved in some serious summer month shenanigans.

As late May Bank Holiday approaches we look forward to our very first BriT dog show, Brufts (see what we did there?)  This will be a dog show with more emphasis on the silly and slobbery rather than the coiffed and preened.   Bring your pooch down for woof-based nonsense.

Later that weekend we also have Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Allan Turner-Ward bringing his cheese-tastic roadshow to The BriT; we will also be having our sausage and cider fest, what’s not to like about that?

Modsummer Madness will takeover The BriT as we celebrate our longest day with a weekend devoted to all things ska and mod; if you haven’t yet caught Boy Le Monti or Reverend Toon you really should….heaps of energy, heaps of fun!

Following a stonking night last year, Terry Farley returns to the decks on July 2nd with the Hold Tight crew supporting; always a heaving dance floor for this night.

The following weekend we go wobbly for Wimbledon with all the big matches shown on our 5.5-meter screen.   Promotions involving strawberries and Pimms (although not necessarily together) will be running.

Other gems coming your way include Stevie G’s Soul Cellar, Little BriT’s Club every Wednesday, Evergreen lunches every Thursday, Afro*Disiacs Rum n Reggae parties and our monthly comedy nights.

The Hairy Man Festival ‘Trimmed’ will also be hosted by The BriT this year but more about that beardy lunacy next time………

The BriT So Far

The BriT has now been open over 2 years and it has been THE most incredible time.

From a financial perspective the business has doubled in size and from a creative viewpoint we are quickly becoming recognised as one of the South’s leading events venue: both in variety and scale!

It would be far too lengthy to detail all the wild and wonderful proceedings to which we’ve lent our name and elbow grease but we can certainly bring you a few choice memories from our formative months.

Certainly our live acts have been incredible.  We support local musicians on a weekly basis and even run a regular night where the musically or lyrically gifted among us can showcase their talents.  We’ve also brought some absolute showstoppers to the BriT.    Finley Quaye proved hugely popular, the godfather of house music, Marshall Jefferson ensured we did indeed ‘move our bodies’; Bez and Rowetta brought the house down with their Madchester musings and who can forget the recent Party in the Park?  Notting Hill descended on Ashley Cross as Norman Jay, MBE and Jazzie B, OBE literally stopped traffic and we danced like loons!  We may not have been their largest festival ever but, in terms of enthusiasm, we totally nailed it!

Our monthly comedy nights are proving ever popular.   We ensure everyone gets a seat and offer meal deals which are just fantastic value; let’s face it…..who doesn’t like a good giggle?

All you sport’s fans will probably know, we had a 5.5 meter screen erected for ALL our big sporting events (not JUST footy); ever watched The Grand National where the horses are life size?  Scary,   and more than a bit impressive.

With a promise of a hot summer we ensured our beer garden had a major make over.  A children’s play area was built and astro-turf was laid.  We purchased outdoor furniture, which had been recycled and up-cycled.  Our outside space has proven to be hugely popular.

We continue to run an array of events and relish a new challenge.  We’ve hosted clairvoyants and mediums, burlesque dancers, quirky quizzes, vintage fairs, mod nights, tribute acts, beer and craft festivals, 50’s dance meets, scooter socials, race nights and charity days; we even have our own football team and they’re pretty tasty…

Although it’s early days Christmas bookings are already being talked about; we booked up in record time last year.  We have boasted a Wonky Wonderland and Narnia so far; whatever we do next is certain to be completely tinsel-tastic with a fantastic and affordable menu to run alongside.

A little BriT about us

The BriT, situated inside the old Britannia Pub, in Ashley Cross, with a capacity of over 300, is the largest venue in Lower Parkstone. It has a large outside decked area, for sunny afternoons and smokers, and a large car park at the rear.

The Venue is split into three different areas, The Westwood Restaurant, The Snug Cocktail Lounge and The BriT Bar; allowing us to utilize the space for numerous events, comedy, cabaret, weddings and private hire.

We are also a live venue, hosting numerous live sporting events on our 5.5 meter screen,  live music (featuring local musicians, as well as top end international artists) featuring a host of genres to suit everyone’s tastes; from jazz, swing, rock ‘n’ roll, acoustic, soul and local/international DJ’s to cabaret evenings with a touch of finesse.

The Bar is stocked with unique and interesting beverages and there’s a wine menu to suit everyone’s tastes and budgets. We stock a selection of real ales and boutique beers and boast an exciting cocktail menu to entice the Ladies who ‘DO’ lunch.

The BriT is influenced by the old style London pub, but with a modern twist. An alternative venue with a raw and eclectic edge, we will be everything that IS British!

The exciting and exhilarating aspects of this venue are that it transcends beyond just decorations and moves into real life; ultimately it’s all about people.

The Westwood Restaurant offers a ‘Best of British’ menu, using all seasonal land locally sourced produce. A mouth-watering taste sensation that will appeal to a diverse clientele, we will be offering good quality home cooked, fresh food, with an edgy rustic feel.

Our Best of British Menu will be available from 12-3pm and 6pm – 9pm on weekdays, 12-9pm on Saturday, and 12-6pm on a Sunday when we run our fantastic carvery.
